From Ticos to Nicas
Dec 13th, 2007 by enroute
Costa Ricans are the Ticos. people in Nicaragua are the Nicas.
Well, now we are among the Nicas. For some reason we ended up in a super luxurious bus, going from San Jose to Managua.
We hopped off the bus shortly after the border crossing, on the Panamericana, in a little town called Rivas.
It was raining like hell and we were pleased, finding a cozy hostel.
The morning of the 10th of december was sunny again and we cycled to San Jorge, taking a little ferry to Isla de Ometepe, an island with two volcanos on the western bank of Largo de Nicaragua. The biggest lake in Central America.
Cycling on the island is pure joy. Hardly any traffica and due to clouds, shadow everywhere. Again there were some uphills but also downhills and load sof little flys. Loads.
Now we had two pretty relaxing days in Santo Domingo. Tomorrow we´ll continue to the San Ramon, spending some time trying to learn spanish.
The first impressions about Nicaragua: Less tourists, more horses, less streetdogs, more little flys, less roads, more land, less expensive, more poor.
But that much we only seem to know after a short time, so there will be much more to learn.
